Frog and the gem
Personal project
In my workplace in Laser Cut Studio, I have access to UV ink printing and laser cutting on plywood and different colourful acrylics, and I've seen some amazing pieces from our clients go through the production line.

I figured I could try my hand at jewellery production as well, and so this Frog was born, holding onto something precious, like a cut gemstone, guarding it.
First as a vector drawing, with each limb and piece as its own element, I fired up Photoshop to breathe some life to him.
The precious gem was left as a bare vector drawing, because I wanted to laser cut it from colourful mirror acrylic.
The Frog started to look deep in worried thoughts, tightly hugging the gemstone, guarding it from something – so I gave him a tiny crown 👑
Disecting the Frog
making the production files
The production files needed laser cutting lines as well as bleeds for all the printed objects.
The back and front pieces were laser cut from 1mm plywood sheet and the middle pieces from 3mm plywood and mirror acrylic. Then the pieces were glued together with double-sided tape.
Production of the pieces
UV printed on Finnish plywood and then laser cut into shapes. The sheet had extra space so I made a Banana for scale keychain measurement tool for funsies ;)
The final result
After putting all four pieces together, here's the final result of the textured version with silver mirror acrylic gem:
All in all I'm very happy with this little personal project I've made, and look forward to utilize these skills in the future :)
